Cherry Red Pick Up The Zombies and Cymande in Series of Six Super Signings

Cymande - The Zombies have ‘Still Got That Hunger’ after 50 years, while Cymande release first album in four decades - New albums also from Wolfgang Flür (Kraftwerk), Luke Haines, Rhoda Dakar and James Taylor Quartet London:-  Cherry Red has inked deals for six highly-anticipated new releases, including British funk band Cymande’s first album in four decades for the world, plus English rock band The Zombies for Europe. Luke Haines, Rhoda Dakar and James Taylor Quartet have also come on-board with the UK independent label under worldwide agreements, with Wolfgang Flür (Kraftwerk) signing for the UK, Europe and Japan. The deals see Cherry Red release recent Glastonbury performers The Zombies’ latest album, Still Got That Hunger, across Europe. The album was worked on by 1998 BRIT-award winning producer Chris Potter (The Verve’s Urban Hymns). Formed in 1961, the formidable group’s 1968 album Odessey and Oracle is counted among Rolling Stone’s “500 Greatest Albums Of All Time”, with the original line up having recently announced plans to perform the aforementioned iconic LP for the first time ever on American stages throughout October.Having previously reissued three of Cymande’s original albums, Cherry Red brings the British funk group’s new record, A Simple Act Of Faith, to the world on 27th November. The ten track LP sees their original producer – Ivor Novello-winner John Schroeder, who first discovered the band in a Soho nightclub back in 1971 – back on production duties, with anticipation for the new album steadily growing since their sold out shows at the end of last year.Meanwhile percussionist Wolfgang Flür (Kraftwerk 1973-87) has inked a deal with Cherry Red for his first solo collection Eloquence, covering UK, Europe and Japan. Out in October, the album brings together all his studio work from 2002 up to the present, much of which has never been released before. It also features a number of collaborations including renowned electronic music composer Ramon Amezcua and Bon Harris (Nitzer Ebb). Track ‘On The Beam’ was one of the last productions made at the Conny Plank Studio, named after the infamous producer whose credentials include Kraftwerk, Ultravox and Killing Joke. A special limited edition clear vinyl LP is in preparation and a spin-off 12” remix will be released early next year.Luke Haines, the English songwriter behind the Mercury Music nominated The Auteurs, returns to the Cherry Red fold for new concept album, British Nuclear Bunkers, out 16th October. Self-produced, using only electronic synthesisers throughout, it is his 14th solo album to date and will fittingly be supported by a series of dates in nuclear bunkers across the UK.Cherry Red has signed 2 Tone ska revivalist Rhoda Dakar, co-writer of The Special AKA’s ‘Nelson Mandela’ and lead singer of 70s all female group The Bodysnatchers, for her latest album, Sings The Bodysnatchers, released 30th October. Produced by Dakar, the brand new studio recordings have until now only ever been heard live, on bootlegs, or on The Bodysnatchers’ two John Peel sessions. Dakar assembled the all-star cast for the album to celebrate 35 years since the group formed, including fellow 2 Tone label mates Sir Horace Gentleman and Lynval Golding of The Specials, and members of UK reggae band Pama International.November sees the release of the James Taylor Quartet’s (JTQ) new album, The Rochester Mass. Recorded in just one day, the album blends funk and acid jazz with the sounds of the 40-strong Rochester Cathedral Choir. After storming Ronnie Scott’s for six back to back shows in August, JTQ have a number of other UK shows lined up for the rest of the year.Adam Velasco, MD of Cherry Red, said: “These signings are a great snapshot of the kind of diversity of release we thrive on at Cherry Red. Some of them have been a long time coming, such as the new Cymande album, and we know they’re not going to disappoint. We also couldn’t be happier to be working with artists like Luke again; those types of relationships are so important to us.” About Cherry RedFounded by Iain McNay in 1978, UK record label Cherry Red has continued to uphold the same fiercely independent values since day one.
